Earl Watson, a four-year starter at UCLA from 1997 to 2001, has been selected for induction into the Kansas Sports Hall of Fame. The ceremony is set for August 16 at Sporting Park in Kansas City.
In the summer of 1997, Baron Davis was the name everybody was talking about — Gatorade National Player of the Year, top point guard in the country. Watson came out of Kansas City, Kansas that same summer and slept on the floor of me and Jelani McCoy’s apartment in Westwood. By November, Earl and Baron were both starting in the backcourt — the first pair of true freshman starting guards at UCLA since Rod Foster and Michael Holton in 1980.
