AUGUSTA, Ga (WJBF)- Doctors at Wellstar MCG have a new technology tool to help with certain procedures. It’s called the Da-Vinci single port Surgical System, a robot that helps expand surgical options for patients.
Doctors at Wellstar MCG are now using robotic technology to help treat throat cancer in a less invasive way. This will be the first robotic assistant in the CSRA to continue helping patients with a calm procedure.
“We primarily use robotics to treat oral pharyngeal cancer. So that’s cancer of the throat. It allows us to do minimally invasive surgery through the mouth. This allows us to treat patients surgically when they have this type of cancer. It’s an alternative to radiation-based treatments. And the goal is to de-escalate treatment, meaning it can allow us to lower the radiation dose and possibly avoid chemotherapy.”, said Ken Byrd Professor/Head of Otolaryngology at Wellstar…
