ALCOA, Tenn. (WATE) — A U.S. Army soldier who died in action during the Korean War returned to America on Friday more than 75 years after his death.
A dignified transfer ceremony took place at McGhee Tyson Airport for Private First Class John Henry “Sonny” Moore.
Family members, honor guard members, and patriot riders were present during the transfer. He will be laid to rest next week in Coeburn, Virginia.
Moore was a member of Company B, 1st Battalion, 8th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division. He was killed in action on September 19, 1950 in South Korea. He was 20 years old.

American Battle Monuments Commission records note that he had previously been wounded by the enemy on July 27, 1950 and returned to duty later that day.
