POWHATAN COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — The Powhatan Commonwealth’s Attorney has declined to prosecute violations of Virginia’s newly signed assault weapons ban, citing concerns over constitutionality and Supreme Court rulings.
In a formal letter obtained by 8News and addressed to Bradford W. Nunnally, the sheriff with the Powhatan County Sheriff’s Office, on Tuesday, May 19, Powhatan Commonwealth’s Attorney Rob Cerullo outlined his objections to the legislation, specifically referencing House Bill 217, which is identical to Senate Bill 749.
