Lee’s Summit Police warning about legality of ‘e-moto’ vehicles on city roads

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – The Lee’s Summit Police Department is clearing the air about the legality of e-bikes, scooters and other ‘e-moto’ vehicles on local roads.

Officials say they’ve received many complaints about young riders operating high-powered ‘e-motos’ in heavy traffic and near intersections, and they’re seeing daily reports of dangerous situations and close calls between these vehicles and cars.

Lee’s Summit police say e-bikes are bicycles equipped with pedals and an electric pedal-assist motor. Riders still pedal while the motor provides assistance. Some models can reach speeds up to and beyond 28 mph…
