WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — Field Station: Dinosaurs in Derby is working to rebuild after its second break-in in under a year.
Guy Gsell, the park’s executive producer, said when he arrived at work on Friday, there were two trespassers on-site who were “up to no good.” They fled before they could be stopped but left behind a trail of damage to the park’s animatronic Utahraptor, baryonyx and dryptosaurus.

Gsell said they “ripped open the dinosaurs” to pull out cables that have copper wire, but they were caught before they could actually steal any. There were also other items scattered around that Gsell thinks they planned to steal.
“Everything was made in China when we opened in 2018, so getting it fixed by the people who made it, that’s just not going to happen,” he said. “We need to find somebody local, some really clever electrician who can come in and help us out.”
