‘I refuse to give up’: Abuse survivor appears in court, confronts ex who beat her, ran her over

In a tense courtroom hearing this month, a Baton Rouge woman was given a chance that not many abuse survivors receive: to confront her abuser face to face and tell him, “I am a domestic violence survivor, but I’m not a victim. I’m a victor.”

Willie Williams, 63, pleaded guilty May 4 to a felony count of aggravated battery for beating his longtime girlfriend as she sat in the passenger seat of his car, then running her over when she fell out of the vehicle.
