Friends of Lafayette rocker Dege Legg carry on music, legacy: ‘It’s my way of keeping him alive’

At the time of Dege Legg’s death two years ago, the rocker was living a life of permanent hustle highlighted with creative and commercial success.

Dege Legg, of Brother Dege & The Brethren, was known for an accessible, highly personal style of Southern blues and rock that highlighted his gifts as a songwriter. He was always writing, making new work and finding new ways to share it, according to his friends, who recently honored the musician with a mural on the studio where Legg lived.

The Dege Legg mural unveiling took place March 8, on the two-year anniversary of the artist’s death in 2024. The event kicked off a year that is set to feature multiple tributes to Legg, starting with a “Brother Dege Beach Birthday Bash” at the Blue Moon Saloon in Lafayette on June 6.
