One person was killed and two others were rushed to hospitals with life-threatening injuries after a two-vehicle crash Friday afternoon in southeast Las Vegas, police said. The collision, near Boulder Highway and Emerald Avenue, shut down lanes in the area while investigators worked the scene. Emergency crews transported two people to area hospitals, and one person was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, the Metropolitan Police Department said in an email sent just after 12:20 p.m. that officers were investigating a two-vehicle collision in the area. The outlet reports two people were taken to hospitals with life-threatening injuries and one person was pronounced dead at the scene. Police had not released the names of those involved or a probable cause while traffic investigators processed the scene.
Lighting Up Boulder Highway
The crash comes just days after the City of Henderson activated roughly 400 new streetlights along a 7.5-mile stretch of Boulder Highway as part of the Reimagine Boulder Highway project, an effort officials say is intended to improve nighttime visibility and reduce crashes. As reported by KTNV, Henderson Mayor Michelle Romero called the activation “a major step forward” for safety on the busy corridor.
