ABC News correspondent Selina Wang shared a firsthand account of the shooting incident near the White House on Saturday through social media.
In a video posted on X (formerly Twitter), Wang, 33, was recording a selfie-style news report for ABC’s social channels from the White House North Lawn when gunshots suddenly rang out. In the background, a man’s voice can be heard shouting “no” as Wang quickly ducked for cover, dropping her phone while trying to move to safety.
“I was in the middle of taping on my iPhone for a social video from the White House North Lawn when we heard the shots. It sounded like dozens of gunshots near the White House,” she wrote in the caption. “We were told to sprint to the press briefing room where we are holding now.”
The post received numerous comments expressing relief that Wang was unharmed. One user wrote, “Glad you’re safe, Selina!
Your professionalism in the moment was impressive-stay protected out there.” Others echoed the sentiment, describing the event as “terrifying” and “crazy,” while hoping for a safe resolution and official updates.
Chris Flanagan, another reporter on site, shared a video from inside the White House complex, stating, “We’re on lockdown,” and noted that former President Donald Trump, 79, was present at the White House during the shooting.
Journalist Julia Benbrook added that around 20 to 30 media members were escorted inside by Secret Service agents following the gunfire. Although shots were reportedly fired in the vicinity of the White House, authorities have yet to confirm the source of the gunfire or report any injuries.
As the situation unfolded Saturday afternoon, both the Secret Service and the Metropolitan Police Department had not released additional details. FBI Director Kash Patel confirmed via X that the FBI was on the scene assisting the Secret Service with the investigation.
“FBI is on the scene and supporting Secret Service responding to shots fired near White House grounds-we will update the public as we’re able,” Patel wrote.
