For Tré Cool, BottleRock Napa Valley has moved well beyond a festival gig.
A year after Green Day headlined the Wine Country festival, the East Bay band’s drummer returned to the Napa Valley Expo in a looser, stranger and more personal role: first-time co-host of the Williams Sonoma Culinary Stage, sideman in his wife Sara Rose Wright’s new band, the Chin Chins, and backstage dad as his son darted around the festival grounds.
“It’s just a weekend hang,” Cool told the Chronicle on Friday, May 22, shortly after sitting in with the Chin Chins. “We come to the festival every year anyway.”

This year, though, he was not just attending. Cool was part of the machinery that makes BottleRock feel like part music festival, part culinary spectacle, part backstage reunion…
