Carolinas still face major drought despite days of much-needed rain

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Memorial Day is around the corner, but instead of celebrating on the lake or even at the park, neighbors may be shielding themselves from days of rain.

“Charlotte is already seeing about one to two inches of rain in the Carolinas as a whole, have already seen one to two inches of rain. And we’ve got another one to two inches of rain here on the way. So this is very beneficial rain for the region,” said Queen City News meteorologist Brandon Lawson.

The region has lacked adequate rainfall for nearly nine months. National drought monitors show 9.5 million North Carolinians are living in areas of drought. April was the fifth driest month since 1895, keeping the state in a level two drought stage…
