The driver of a Ford F150 was arrested on suspicion of DWI after driving his vehicle off the U.S. 1 overpass and plunging onto Midland Road below. The Southern Pines crash happened just before 8 p.m. on Saturday.
The driver of the pickup truck was traveling northbound on U.S. 1. According to authorities, he ran off the left side of the roadway and went airborne between the overpasses, landing on the road below. The truck hit a concrete barrier below and flipped upside down.
He managed to escape the wreckage just before the first emergency units arrived and appeared uninjured. The Ford F150 truck was a total loss.
The driver was administered a roadside sobriety test and placed under arrest at the scene by Southern Pines Police for suspicion of driving while impaired.
