Clark County unveils ‘Mariachi Park’ to honor east Las Vegas Latino heritage

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A well-known east Las Vegas park officially has a new name aimed at honoring the area’s cultural roots. On Tuesday, Clark County leaders voted unanimously to rename Cesar Chavez Park to Mariachi Park.

Music, dancing, and community pride filled the air Saturday morning as Clark County officially unveiled the new name, now called Mariachi Park. They also celebrated the neighborhood’s Latino heritage and the generations of families who helped shape the community.

County leaders like Commissioner Tick Segerblom said the new name reflects the deep cultural traditions of East Las Vegas and the strong influence mariachi music has had on generations of local families.

He said the park’s new identity also recognizes the growth of mariachi programs in East Las Vegas schools, and the students and educators keeping the tradition alive…
