‘It sounded like a bomb going off’: Tree smashes into Amazon cargo bike, cars

A massive, older tree ripped away from a Hell’s Kitchen sidewalk Sunday afternoon, smashing into an Amazon cargo bike and two cars. No injuries were immediately reported.

The tree has been a fixture in the neighborhood on West 44th Street near 10th Ave. for decades.

“We were sitting right here in our living room, and (my wife) was upstairs… and she said, “what was that?!?” neighbor Fasar Hardin told NBC New York. The force of the tree’s uprooting sent a plank of sidewalk aiming diagonally into the air.

“The Parks Dept. was just here. They just redid the sidewalk around the roots of the tree,” said Hardin’s wife, Annie Chadwick.

“It sounded like a bomb going off,” Hardin added…
