FIRST ALERT: Drier Sunday, Active Pattern Returns Memorial Day

GREENVILLE, S.C. (FOX Carolina) – Sunday brings a brief lull in the active pattern with just a small chance for a stray shower during the day. Rain picks back up Sunday night and continues for Memorial Day and into all of next week.

Sunday: Drier but Cool

Sunday looks like the nicest day of the long holiday weekend, but it’s still not the prettiest of days. A stray shower is possible, but most of the daylight hours look mainly dry. Mostly cloudy skies in the morning give way to sonmem peeks of sunshine in the afternoon, but the cloud never completely clear. It’s warmer than Saturday but still cool for late May. Highs are only in the mid 70s all across the Western Carolinas.

Rain picks back up around sunset. Some heavy rain is possible overnight. While a few rumbles of thunder are possible, no severe weather is expected.

Memorial Day: Scattered Rain, Cool

Scattered showers and thunderstorms move through the Western Carolinas on and off all day Monday. It won’t be a washout, but we could see some rain at any point today. Some storms could produce heavy rainfall, but once again, not expecting any severe weather. The ground is already wet from the weekend, so any heavy downpours could lead to localized flooding. Keep an eye on your First Alert Weather App for storm updates throughout the day. Highs are still a bit below normal for late May topping out in the upper 70s.

Next Week: Unsettled Continues

Tuesday still looks fairly active with scattered showers and thunderstorms on and off through the day. By Wednesday, the pattern shifts into a more typical warm-season setup with diurnal thunderstorms each afternoon and evening. Afternoon highs climb to the low to mid 80s in the Upstate and the upper 70s to low 80s in the mountains. A backdoor cold front slides through Friday which keeps unsettled weather around and another cool down on the way for the first weekend of June.

Bottom Line

The Western Carolinas face a prolonged stretch of unsettled weather through the end of May and into early June. The wettest days are Monday and Tuesday, with heavy rain possible. Daytime thunderstorms become the norm as the week progresses. Stay with First Alert for the latest updates…
