On a sunny Memorial Day weekend morning, nearly 100 Massachusetts State Police troopers laced up their running shoes and took to the streets of Boston for the annual Boston’s Run to Remember. The event, held on Sunday, May 24, 2026, served as a powerful tribute to fallen first responders and military personnel, with a special focus this year on honoring one of their own.
Trooper Kevin Thomas Trainor, 30, of Georgetown (formerly of Salem), was killed in the line of duty on May 6, 2026. While heading home after his shift from the Danvers Barracks, he responded to reports of a wrong-way driver on Route 1 in Lynnfield. In a tragic head-on collision around 2:04 a.m., the 30-year-old trooper’s cruiser was struck, and he later succumbed to his injuries at Massachusetts General Hospital. The wrong-way driver also perished in the crash.

Trainor had served with the Massachusetts State Police for three years as a member of the 88th Recruit Training Troop. Prior to that, he worked as a corrections officer in Essex County.
