Baby Rescued from Flooded Car in Texas Creek Crossing

Body camera footage has captured a dramatic rescue in Beeville, Texas, where a baby was saved from a vehicle trapped in rapidly rising floodwaters. The incident took place Saturday as heavy storms swept through the area, causing dangerous flooding about 100 miles southeast of San Antonio.

According to the Beeville Police Department, a vehicle entered a low-water crossing that was quickly overwhelmed by the sudden downpour. The rushing water pushed the car toward a nearby creek, creating a perilous situation for those inside.

“Officers and firefighters responded after the vehicle became stranded and was being pushed by the floodwaters,” the department said in a Facebook post. A fire chief at the scene had tried to warn the driver, but the vehicle entered the crossing before the warning could be heeded.

The footage shows water rising swiftly around the car, reaching the top of its wheels as officers assessed the scene. The driver was heard urgently alerting responders that a baby was inside the vehicle.

An officer then waded through the floodwaters, opened the door, and pulled out the infant’s car seat. Another responder shielded the child from the rain with a jacket as they moved to safety.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported. Both the baby and the driver were safely rescued. Authorities stressed the dangers of floodwaters, noting how quickly conditions can worsen and how little water is needed to sweep a vehicle off the road.

The Beeville Police Department reminded the public not to ignore barricades or attempt to drive through flooded areas, emphasizing the risks to life and the fact that bypassing road closures is a criminal offense. Drivers are urged to slow down during heavy rain and avoid all flooded roadways, especially low-lying crossings.

“No errand, shortcut, or destination is worth risking your life or your family’s safety,” the department stated. This rescue serves as a powerful reminder of the hazards posed by flash flooding and the importance of heeding safety warnings during severe weather.
