Francis Street Chip Seal Project to Begin July 6

The city will begin a pavement preservation project on Francis Street next week, with crews applying chip seal between 21st Avenue and Calkins Avenue from July 6 through July 15 in an effort to extend the roadway’s lifespan before more extensive reconstruction is needed.

The project is part of the city’s annual Pavement Management Program, which uses preventative maintenance treatments such as chip sealing, crack sealing and asphalt overlays to preserve more than 350 centerline miles of city streets. Officials say the strategy helps delay significantly more expensive road reconstruction projects while minimizing long-term traffic disruptions.

Construction is scheduled to begin Monday, July 6, and continue through Wednesday, July 15, weather permitting.
