Platte River Power Authority issues energy emergency alert through 9 p.m. tonight

FORT COLLINS, Colo. — The Platte River Power Authority asked customers within its four owner communities to reduce their energy use through 9 p.m. tonight amid an energy emergency alert in the region.

Widespread high temperatures, an increase in electric generation resource outages and low production from wind turbines and solar fields across the western footprint of the Southwest Power Pool is impacting the energy supply, according to the power authority.

Customers in Estes Park, Fort Collins, Longmont and Loveland are asked to reduce their use of electricity from now until 9 p.m. tonight…
