Here are top tips on how to properly winterize your landscape and sprinkler system in Colorado.

When does Fort Collins see its first fall frost on average?

There is a difference between a frost and freeze.

A frost (32 degrees) will nip the leaves of tender annual flowers and above-ground vegetables like tomatoes and peppers. It likely won’t damage above-ground sprinkler system parts.

A freeze (28 degrees) will significantly damage annuals and vegetables. If sustained, it can damage the above-ground parts of your sprinkler system if you haven’t drained it.

  • First frost (32 degrees): Oct. 5 on average in Fort Collins. There is a 90% chance of seeing a low of 32 degrees by Oct. 17.
  • First freeze (28 degrees): There is a 50% chance of our first freeze by Oct. 11 and 90% chance by Oct. 26.
