Charles Hansen’s foresight led to Colorado-Big Thompson project

You can thank one man who died 72 years ago for not having to go on water restrictions during this year’s drought.

The tombstone over Charles Hansen’s grave at the Linn Grove Cemetery in Greeley identifies him as the “Father of the C-BT.” Historian Daniel Tyler in “The Last Water Hole in the West” labeled Hansen the “Godfather” of the Colorado-Big Thompson project.

No matter that slight variance, it’s arguable that without Hansen’s foresight, grit and determination many of us wouldn’t be living in Northern Colorado — as there wouldn’t be enough water to go around.
