WELD COUNTY, Colo. — A man who was shot by a Weld County Sheriff’s Office deputy after firing a gun in October 2024 was sentenced to three years in prison Thursday.
Joe Sanchez, 20, pleaded guilty to three counts of felony menacing- real/simulated weapon and was immediately sentenced, according to court documents. He received three years for each count to be served concurrently.
As part of the plea agreement, the rest of his charges were dismissed, including the following, court records show:
- Disorderly conduct – discharging a firearm
- Tampering with physical evidence
- Violation of a protection order
- Two counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor
Deputies responded just after midnight on Oct. 27, 2024, for a reported disturbance in the 200 block of 2nd Avenue Lane in unincorporated Weld County, where they encountered an armed man later identified as Sanchez, according to the 19th Judicial District Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT)…
