Severe Thunderstorm, Hail, Tornado Risk For South Florida

MIAMI, Florida – The National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center has issued a marginal risk (Level 1/5) severe weather outlook for South Florida due to the potential for severe thunderstorms expected to impact the region this afternoon and evening on Saturday, June 20, 2026.

The National Weather Service in Miami forecasts scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms in South Florida this afternoon through early evening, with a marginal risk of severe storms primarily across Miami-Dade and Broward counties, including Miami, Fort Lauderdale, and Boca Raton. Storms could develop as early as 1:30pm or 2pm but are most likely to occur between 3pm and 10pm.

Main hazards include frequent lightning, gusty winds, and locally heavy downpours that may bring poor drainage flooding. An isolated tornado or hail cannot be ruled out with the strongest storms, though these are less likely than the primary threats of wind and lightning.

These storms may produce wind gusts up to 60 mph and locally heavy rainfall.

High temperatures will range from the upper 80s to low 90s this afternoon, with heat indices reaching 103°F or higher. A Heat Advisory is in effect through this evening.
