Kentucky woman sentenced to federal prison for identity theft and bank fraud

JACKSONVILLE, Florida — Abigail Payton, a 30-year-old from Kentucky, has been sentenced to three years and six months in federal prison for aggravated identity theft and bank fraud.

Payton pleaded guilty on November 13, 2025, according to U.S. Attorney Gregory W. Kehoe. Court documents reveal that Payton obtained personal identifying information, including Social Security numbers, of at least four victims. She used fraudulent driver licenses with the victims’ information but her photo to open checking accounts at credit unions in Jacksonville and Fort Lauderdale. Payton applied for loans in two victims’ names and spent over $38,000 of the proceeds. Additionally, she wrote checks to herself from accounts opened in two other victims’ names and caused an additional $35,000 in loss by opening accounts at other banking institutions under separate victims’ names…
