PUNTA GORDA — The Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed two deaths in connection with an investigation on Trails End Drive on Wednesday.
Officials with Charlotte County Public Safety previously stated that a call was placed for two individuals out of the rural area around 12:47 p.m. Wednesday afternoon.
CCSO officials said two people were “shot and killed” in an “isolated” incident, according to a news release, but could not share more information as of Thursday.
Sheriff Bill Prummell asked for the community’s understanding as his deputies and detectives pursue a “very fluid and active investigation.”
“I understand the community’s concern and the anxiousness for information,” Prummell said in the news release. “At this time, there is nothing more we can provide without jeopardizing the investigation, but we will provide an update when it is appropriate to do so.”
Officials did stress that the shooting was “specific to the residence,” with “no danger to the public.”
Local authorities have reported a number of notable death investigations over the past month, including an active investigation into a shooting on Matecumbe Road and the discovery of two siblings found dead in their home on Northview Street.
