PREP SWIMMING: Port Charlotte fends off North Port in pool

PORT CHARLOTTE — The Port Charlotte boys and girls swim teams are molding into shape, and so is an undermanned North Port.

The Bobcats got swept by the larger, deeper Pirates squad, but they didn’t roll over and play dead, as they had several great performances to keep things respectable.

The Pirates girls easily disposed of the Bobcats, 152-103, while the boys had a slightly more difficult time, winning 156-134 in a dual meet Saturday at Centennial Park.

Port Charlotte dominated the relays and diving, which proved to be the difference, at least for the boys, since the Bobcats dominated one event that brought them a boatload of points.

Individually, Port Charlotte’s Camdyn Rack captured the 200-yard individual medley, Sadie Wright won the 50 freestyle, Zoey Marzonie won the 500 freestyle and was on all three relay-winning teams along with Rack. Gracie Allen won the one-meter diving, competing against herself.

For the boys, Port Charlotte was led by Dmitrii Panchenko, who won the 200 individual medley, Zack Moya won the 100 butterfly, Nicholas Evans captured the 500 freestyle and Mason Drumm was the 100 breaststroke winner.
