Texas man sentenced in $2.6M fraud scheme that targeted Fort Wayne business

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) — A man from Texas was sentenced in federal court to nearly 6 years in prison after pleading guilty to his role in a fraud conspiracy that targeted small businesses and government programs across the United States, including a business in Fort Wayne.

On Wednesday, Texas-based Khalid Ahamad, 55, was sentenced to 70 months, or just under six years, in prison after pleading guilty to conspiracy to commit wire fraud. Additionally, Ahamad was ordered to pay $2,607,107.82 in restitution.

According to the Department of Justice, Ahamad worked with several others from 2020 to April of 2023 to conduct multiple schemes across the country. These schemes included business email compromise scams, unemployment insurance fraud, and fraudulent Small Business Administration loan applications…
