NORTH WEBSTER, Ind. (WANE) Powerful storms ripped across part of the Midwest Thursday evening, causing damage throughout Indiana and leaving thousands of residents without power.
The National Weather Service has been working to assess the damage, and has confirmed 6 tornadoes in northeast Indiana as of Saturday night.
Huntington County
The latest tornadoes to be confirmed are three EF-1 twisters, all in Huntington County. The tornado in Huntington County that had the longest track touched down a few miles south of Mt. Etna and took a northeast track for 7.9 miles, crossed I-69, and lifted a mile WSW of Plum Tree. This tornado has peak winds of 95 mph and a maximum width of 50 yards.
Another EF-1 tornado was confirmed near Andrews. The path of that tornado, which was on the ground for nearly six miles, stayed south of Andrews’ town center. The peak winds were 95 mph, and the maximum width was 75 yards.
The third and shortest EF-1 confirmed in Huntington County touched down northeast of Huntington and stayed on the ground for less than a mile, impacting one home that had its roof blown off. It touched down to the east of SR 9 and lifted near W 600 N. This tornado had peak winds of 95 mph and a maximum width of 25 yards.
Other confirmed tornadoes
An EF-1 was confirmed near the city of Wabash, with peak winds of 110 mph, injuring 2 on its nearly 4.5 mile path.
Another tornado was confirmed in northwestern Jay County, near the community of Balbec. A brief EF-0 tornado was confirmed to have caused damage. It carved a 1.14 mile path with peak winds of 80 mph.
A tornado has been confirmed, up to EF-1 strength in LaGrange and Steuben counties. The twister touched down in SE LaGrange County, travelled northeast up to the north of Angola before lifting…
