Heavy traffic eases while many still without power

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) — Hundreds were without power, including traffic lights, on Fort Wayne’s west side amid rush hour. As power is slowly but surely restored, the heavy traffic has eased.

Around 4 p.m. on Friday, the Indiana Michigan Outage Map showed that over 400 customers were without power from S Thomas Road through and beyond the I-69 exits. As of 6:30 p.m., just 135 customers are without power, and many of the Illinois Road traffic lights have returned to normal.

The outage knocked out traffic signals through that stretch of Illinois Road, causing rush-hour traffic to pile up. Many homes and businesses in the area still do not have power.

Fort Wayne Dispatch confirmed that police and medics responded to a crash in the 4400 block of Illinois Road around the same time as the power outage. It is unclear if the crash is connected…
