A New York Central steam locomotive was transported through Kosciusko County on the way to restoration.
New York Central 3001 was built in 1940 and operated until the 1950s, according to the Fort Wayne Railroad Historical Society. The Society acquired 3001 after an agreement with the city of Elkhart and the National New York Central Railroad Museum in Elkhart. The society’s goal, according to their website americanloco.org, is to restore 3001 to run excursion trains.
