US 224 in Decatur faces 4-month closure for bridge construction

DECATUR, Ind. (WANE) – A well-traveled stretch of road in Decatur will be shut down through the summer for construction, the Indiana Department of Transportation announced Monday.

Starting on or after April 27, U.S. 224 will be closed over the St. Marys River while crews construct a bridge. The work is expected to wrap up by the end of August, INDOT said.

Bridge deck overlay will be taking place on U.S. 224 between 1st Street and Limberlost Trail. The shutdown blocks off a stretch of road leading in and out of downtown Decatur. The detour takes S.R. 1 to U.S. 33 and U.S. 27…
