FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) — Mayor Sharon Tucker and the City of Fort Wayne have announced that $2.26 million of philanthropic funds will go toward the incoming homeless shelter downtown.
Tucker’s office said on Wednesday that the low-barrier 24/7 shelter called the Anchor Resource Center, named as a nod to the city’s three rivers, will provide Fort Wayne’s homeless population with access to healthcare, employment and housing opportunities, as well as serve as an emergency shelter.
The city is hoping to address the complicated needs of people struggling with homelessness with the incoming facility, which, upon City Council approval, will be located at the vacant building at 333 Washington Blvd.
