Fort Wayne man seriously injured after crash into DeKalb County ditch

DEKALB COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) – The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office responded to a crash that left a man seriously injured.

Police responded to the 6800 block of County Road 327 just south of Garrett, Indiana, on Friday at 4:23 p.m. after reports of a crash.

According to a press release, A witness told law enforcement that they had seen a car heading north on County Road 327 when it crossed the centerline and southbound lanes, veering off the roadway. The car struck a utility pole and rolled into a ditch.

The driver of the car was identified as Michael Gongaware, 46, of Fort Wayne, and could not remember what had happened. The press release states that Gongaware sustained a head injury and a spinal fracture; he was treated on scene and transported to a hospital nearby…
