Winston Love gets 45 years for stealing LEGO sets from Target

Winston Love, a 28-year-old man from Tarrant County, Texas, was sentenced to 45 years in prison after a jury found him guilty of organized retail theft with a deadly weapon. The verdict, handed down this week, marked the first jury trial prosecuted under Texas’ updated organized retail theft law, which took effect on Sept. 1, 2025.

Prosecutors said Love spent 50 days in 2025 systematically targeting Target stores across North Texas, making off with more than 200 LEGO sets along with coffee makers, vacuum cleaners, and PlayStation controllers. The sheer breadth of the operation across at least 14 cities drew the attention of multiple law enforcement agencies and raised questions about how far organized retail theft networks have stretched across state lines.

What the Love theft ring looked like

Authorities described Love’s activity as fast and coordinated. He struck multiple store locations in rapid succession, and investigators eventually connected him to a broader theft ring operating between Texas and Oklahoma that dealt in large volumes of stolen LEGO merchandise. The scale of the operation set it apart from typical shoplifting cases.

Things came to a head on Oct. 27, 2025, when a loss-prevention officer at a Target in Mansfield recognized Love and he fled the store.
