4 Fremont residents arrested for damaging utility cables that affected 10K customers’ internet

(KRON) — The Fremont Police Department said four Fremont residents were arrested in stealing more than $55,000 in fiber-optic and coaxial cables at multiple city locations throughout May. FPD said surveillance video helped make a breakthrough in the case, capturing the suspects and their vehicles by the crime scene.

FPD said on May 9, the suspects cut down cables in the 2100 block of Peralta Boulevard and caused approximately $50,000 in damage.

Fremont police said the incident also disrupted internet, phone, television, and home security services for approximately 10,000 customers.

“On May 13th, suspects with matching descriptions returned to the area and stole approximately $5,000 worth of additional cable from the same location,” said police. “On May 20th, the same individuals were observed by Fremont detectives engaging in similar conduct in other parts of the city.”…
