(KRON) — A rabid bat was found earlier this week near a sidewalk in the Palo Verde Common in South Fremont. According to the Fremont Police Department, Alameda County Vector Control collected the bat on Tuesday, May 26 near a sidewalk “within reachable distance of pedestrians and animals.”

Vector control confirmed on Thursday that the bat tested positive for rabies. However, there are no known animal or human exposures associated with this bat, police said.
Vector Control, which is the lead agency investigating the incident, leafleted the area around where the bat was discovered. Police recommend that humans and pets avoid contact with bats and other wild animals.
