Bay Area Target’s grocery section closed following rat infestation

A San Jose Target remains partially closed following a health inspection that found signs of a vermin problem last week.

The Target’s grocery department was shut down immediately on Friday after rodent droppings and food packages that were chewed through were found throughout the store’s warehouse, according to a Santa Clara County Environmental Health inspection report. In a written statement to SFGATE, officials said the inspection was spurred by a complaint from the public. NBC Bay Area (KNTV-TV) first reported on the closure.

“The grocery section will remain closed and no grocery items will be sold until a pest report has been provided that shows the problem has been addressed and an inspection can be conducted to confirm the presence of vermin has been eliminated,” Santa Clara County Environmental Health wrote in the statement…
