Beach hazards statement issued for Bay Area coast

SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — A beach hazards statement has been issued for much of the Bay Area coastline Wednesday — just as a days-long heat spike descends on the region. The National Weather Service is warning of an increased risk of sneaker waves and strong rip currents due to a long-period southerly swell.

Six Ocean Beach homicides remain unsolved

The statement went into effect Tuesday just before 8 p.m. and will last until 5 a.m. Thursday. The statement impacts Pacific Coast beaches across the following counties:

  • Sonoma
  • Marin
  • San Mateo
  • Santa Cruz

The NWS advises that the greatest threat will be along south and southwest facing beaches. Impacts from the statement include dangerous conditions along the shoreline. The NWS is advising beachgoers to stay off jetties, piers, rocks and other waterside infrastructure…
