(KRON) — An unlicensed teenager operating an electric scooter without a helmet sustained minor injuries after crashing into a parked vehicle over the weekend, according to the Alameda Police Department.

APD said officers responded on Sunday to the 100 block of Maitland Drive for a collision involving a 13-year-old rider, who was treated at the scene.
Alameda police are using the incident as a reminder to remind community members it is the law, per the California Vehicle Code, that e-scooter operators have a valid driver’s license. Riders who are ages 16 and 17 and have a valid license are required to wear a helmet at all times.
“We encourage parents to review all e-scooter and e-bike laws and safety requirements before purchasing these devices for their children,” said police in a social media post Wednesday. “Planning ahead can help prevent serious injuries and potential fines or vehicle impoundment.”…
