Man dies after crashing e-scooter in San Jose, police say

A man riding an electric scooter died days after crashing in San Jose, police said Thursday.

The solo-crash happened around 4:56 p.m. on June 9 near Commercial Street and Oakland Road.

Investigators said the man was riding an electric Segway scooter east in the westbound bike lane on Commercial Street when he lost control and fell. Police said the rider was not wearing a helmet. He was taken to a hospital to be treated for life-threatening injuries and died of his injuries on June 13. The Santa Clara County Office of the Medical Examiner will release the man’s identity after notifying his next of kin.
