An eight-story apartment complex could replace a cluster of businesses at the corner of El Camino Real and Madison Avenue, including Happy Donuts, The King Mattress and Furniture and The Record Man.
Mecah Ventures, a private real estate development firm based in Menlo Park, has submitted plans for a 126-unit rental housing project at 1330 El Camino Real, less than a mile from downtown Redwood City. The city lists the project as a planning application submittal, with no public meetings scheduled.
The project would include 30 studios, 56 one-bedroom apartments and 40 two-bedroom apartments. Of those, 26 units are affordable , split into three categories, very low, low and moderate, with six, seven and 13 apartments respectively.
The nearly 98-foot-tall building would rise above the 50-foot height limit listed under Redwood City’s Downtown Precise Plan. The developer is seeking zoning waivers for height, open space, bicycle parking, frontage and other development standards…
