(KRON) — A 14-year-old boy was arrested in San Lorenzo on Tuesday after allegedly stealing a car and fleeing from Alameda County Sheriff’s Office deputies. Authorities said this was not the young teenager’s first time stealing a car.
Deputies responded just after 7 a.m. to a report of a stolen vehicle and tracked it to San Lorenzo using license plate reader cameras, the sheriff’s office said. Once the car was in their sights, they darted it with a StarChase GPS tracker as the driver continued to flee.
The GPS device allowed authorities to track it remotely to a residential street, where it was found abandoned. Witnesses in the area helped deputies with a description of the suspect who fled on foot, the sheriff’s office said.
