Set then at $88 million, 3000 Ralston Ave., aka Villa de Verano, was poised to be Hillsborough’s most expensive residential sale ever. This summer, the property has finally traded hands. Though it sold for less than its original asking price, the final sale has not only broken Hillsborough’s previous sales record but doubled it.
Hillsborough is a tough place to compete if you’re a fancy mansion. The area is awash is such properties: Bing Crosby’s estate with its Seabiscuit lore, the Koshland Estate with its four-bridge views and ties to Levi Strauss, the former home of Elon Musk and the Julia Morgan-designed Western White House are just a few illustrious examples. Given that Hillsborough itself is home almost exclusively to the “wildly rich,” homes selling for multiple millions of dollars shouldn’t surprise anyone.
