(KRON) — Two San Jose women are facing grand theft charges after police in Milpitas said they were caught with hundreds of pounds of stolen copper on Sunday.
The Milpitas Police Department responded around 7 p.m. to the 700 block of Sycamore Drive on the report of two women loitering around a closed construction site. Arriving officers found the suspects and their van, which contained “approximately 300 pounds of stolen copper wire, along with counterfeit currency, drug paraphernalia, and several other illegal items,” police wrote.
The 58-year-old and 49-year-old suspects were arrested and booked into jail for conspiracy, grand theft, possession of stolen property, possession of drug paraphernalia, loitering, forgery and illegal possession of pepper spray by a convicted felon.
Milpitas PD wrote, “Copper theft isn’t a victimless crime. Beyond the value of the stolen metal, it can cause extensive damage to construction sites, businesses, and utility infrastructure, leading to costly repairs, dangerous conditions, and disruptions that impact the entire community.”…
