Zuckerberg-backed school filings show where 147 Bay Area layoffs will hit

The Primary School, a tuition-free school founded by Mark Zuckerberg and Dr. Priscilla Chan, updated state regulatory filings Tuesday clarifying where 147 previously reported job cuts will occur as the school shuts down its Bay Area campuses this summer.

The updated notices, filed Tuesday with California’s Employment Development Department, cover three locations tied to the school’s operations in San Leandro and East Palo Alto. The layoffs are scheduled to take effect June 30.

The largest share of the cuts will hit the Primary School’s East Palo Alto campus on Clarke Avenue, where 100 employees are expected to lose their jobs, according to the state filing. Another 22 employees will be laid off at the school’s administrative office on East Bayshore Road, also in East Palo Alto. In San Leandro, 25 employees will be laid off at the school’s campus at 750 Fargo Ave.

The Primary School said the Tuesday filings refer to the same 147 layoffs previously reported by the Chronicle, not a separate round of job cuts…
