Fresno – A local prosecutor was attacked in broad daylight just steps from the courthouse, an incident authorities have described as a targeted act of retaliation. The assault occurred Thursday afternoon while the victim and colleagues were filming a campaign commercial near Courthouse Park in downtown Fresno. The prosecutor sustained multiple stab wounds but was later released from the hospital after treatment.

According to District Attorney Lisa Smittcamp, the suspect approached a group gathered outside the park and appeared to recognize several people present. He then focused on one individual, the prosecutor, and carried out the assault. The victim was stabbed three times in the back during the confrontation.

Witnesses and officials reported that the attack happened quickly and without warning. The prosecutor was immediately attended to and transported to a hospital for care. No other members of the group were injured in the incident.
