Hundreds of campaign signs taken down by City of Fresno

FRESNO, Calif. ( KSEE / KGPE ) – The City Attorney of Fresno sent a reminder to campaigns Wednesday where they can put up their signs.

After hundreds of them were taken down for being placed in areas that the city says could cause problems to drivers and pedestrians.

“We’ve received dozens of complaints over the last several weeks, we’ve spent countless hours removing campaign signs from the public right away from center median to sidewalks utility poles, you name it,” said Fresno City Attorney Andrew Janz.

The Code Enforcement Office at City Hall was packed with campaign signs that were taken down for violating city municipal codes.

“We don’t want this to be anything putative, we just want it to be fact-based and educational,” said Janz.

Janz says his office has worked with almost every campaign to solve the problem going forward.

Dion Bourdase, who is running for the Fresno County Board of Supervisors, disagrees with the decision.

He believes the city is taking away his First Amendment right by taking down his signs.
