From a patchwork jacket fitted with the posters of Denton Community Theatre shows, a graphite-drawn scene of an unhoused individual, sitting under a freeway, to a sculpture of a colorful caravan, covered in memorabilia from iconic Denton locations. These concepts might not seem like they have much in common, they all paint a picture of Denton’s diverse, multicultural and multidisciplinary art scene.
Artists Enclave of Denton County, which has been highlighting local artists since 2015, has taken inspiration from this melting pot mentality in Denton with the opening of their newest exhibition, titled “Many Worlds, One Home.” The reception for the exhibition was held May 28, inside the Patterson-Appleton Arts Center at 400 E. Hickory St.
“As a linguist, I meet people from different communities, so I wanted to have a project where we could bring together different communities and backgrounds that are belonging to the same home,” said Sidaf Munshi, Artists Enclave board member and retiring university linguistics professor. “We talked about it almost two years ago that we should do something that will bring together these different cultures, different communities, different backgrounds as whole big world together.”…
