Government Assistance

SNAP :: Families in eligible low-income households receive money for groceries six months at a time through the supplemental nutrition assistance program (SNAP). The funds are dispersed monthly on a Lonestar card that can be used to purchase fruits, vegetables, milk, bread, cereal, meat, and even seeds to grow food. SNAP benefits may not be used to buy candy, alcohol, tobacco, vitamins, supplements, or non-food items. Apply on Your Texas Benefits.

Texas WIC :: If you qualify for SNAP, you may also qualify for Texas WIC benefits. WIC is for pregnant women, women breastfeeding a child under one year old, a woman who had a baby in the past six months, and anyone parenting children who are five years old or younger. You must live in Texas and meet the income guidelines for your household. Apply online. You will need identification, proof of income, proof of residency, and proof of participation in Medicaid, TANF, or SNAP, if applicable.
